Monthly Invasions

Ah, the monthly soiree. 30 days out of the year (minus September, February, April, June, and November), we party hard with the usual suspects in the usual hot spots. Yet once a month a party pops up that gives everyone some excitement and builds anticipation for total abomination. Not like people need excuses to dive into mass amounts of excess, but it’s slightly comforting to have one.

So without further ado, here are the monthly mayhems taking a bite out of The Big Apple:

1. Glamdammit = The Stardust Companion.
Ziggy’s tribute party happening on the 2nd Saturday of every month at Rififi (332 E. 11th St.). This party is a glamtastic time offering rare Bowie footage that inspires people to jump on stage and feel like they are apart of his performance. Please refrain from licking the screen. A packed crowd sports glitter and spandex dancing as if it is their last night on Mars. (See numerous other postings in my archives – I am an obsessed fan. Guilty as charged).

2. Smashed! Blocked! = My Northern Soul.
Proudly proclaimed, “New York City’s Monthly Freak Out!” This party knows how to give a manicure and ruin it 15 minutes later. Located at Beauty Bar (231 East 14th Street) this party spins a mix of sixties beat and soul and a few have been known to conceive a love child right at the bar. No shame here.

3. Nouveau! = Panic & The Paparazzi.
This monthly Thursday night knockout happens at Fat Baby (112 Rivington Street, between Ludlow and Essex). The three-tier venue holds max capacity and the open vodka bar from 10 –11 p.m. helps to erase any memory of the workweek. A word to the wise- if someone mentions "the scene" and you have no idea what they are referring to – it is best to not stand & wait in this line.

4. DeLuxe = Musically Delicious!
A personal favorite happening at Lolita (266 Broome Street at Allen Street), which is thrown by Dr. Maz, one of the DJs behind Mondo, Luke & Leroy's smashing dance party. It spins everything you’ve been craving to hear with an emphasis on Indie, French, and Brit Pop. Mmmmmm…. Brits.

5. Hands & Knees (NYC) = Blue collar hits the white.
DJ John Redden and Ian St. Laurent are bringing some brotherly love to the mean streets of Manhattan. Photos from the opening party show a ton of familiar Philly faces rather than fresh ones, so you might have to mingle with the Bridge & Tunnel crowd for now. This party happens at Fontanas – and if anyone has ever heard of this venue or knows where that is – feel free to email me.

Ziggy Would Be Happy

Tonight, October 14th, GLAMDAMMIT is back for the best monthly New York City has to offer! This party holds a special place in my nearly dead & cold heart because it was the first soiree I reviewed for the midnight maniac, Antonio.

There are a ton of special hosts tonight - all with one common goal - to make you feel like you are living on Mars. So come out, show us your stardust and tap into your inner Ziggy.
